How to become a LAN Member

From 1 January LAN will start to charge a £10 annual membership fee. (See below for information on how you can join)

Membership of Lancashire Artists’ Network will give artists:

·         *Access to the new Members Only sections of the website, which will display opportunities, resources, advice etc.

·         The monthly e-newsletter (which we plan to update and develop)

·         Free entry to LAN events organised as part of the professional development programme, often in partnership with other organisations.

·         Access to LAN Bursary and Residency opportunities

*N.B Members will have an opportunity to voice views as to what changes they would like to see with the website.

Meanwhile, we will continue to seek new funding and sponsorship, and will review the situation regularly, but in the long term I think that an annual membership fee may be the only way to help ensure LAN’s future.

LAN is undoubtedly a much valued part of the Lancashire cultural scene and, with limited resources; we maintain a profile equal to organisations much larger than ours.

Recognition of our value is endorsed by Lancashire County Council’s continuing financial support for another year.LAN has recently applied to ACE for further support . However, the general arts funding situation is changing fast and, along with other organisations, we face an uncertain financial future. So, in order to be sustainable, LAN has no option other than to start charging for membership. I realise this is a big change, but unfortunately it is one that is unavoidable if LAN is to continue to exist.

The website will be changed to reflect this new membership scheme.  At the moment it is not set up for membership i.e. everybody who is registered can see and add what they wish, so for the first few months of the scheme that will remain.  However, with the release of further funding, and with your invaluable new financial support, we will be able to start work on much needed website improvements, making it more user friendly, visually striking, with improved functionality, and with a dedicated Members Only area. The public part of the site will continue to be accessible to potential buyers and commissioners.

LAN exists for the benefit of its members.  It is up to its members to ensure that it operates for their mutual benefit.  I hope that you will recognise the importance of this new membership scheme, and will be prepared to pay the annual fee.

I look forward to working with and for you to continue making LAN a rich and vibrant network of creative practitioners. We have the collective ability to move forward and respond to both opportunity and challenge.
