Launch of The Temple of a Thousand Bells

To whet your appetite for Liverpool Biennial 2010, we have opened the first of 45 commissions - Laura Belém's The Temple of a Thousand Bells.  It is located in the Oratory (next to Liverpool Cathedral) and is now open to the public Thursday to Sunday (including Bank Holiday Monday) from 10am to 6pm until 17 Sep. When the Biennial launches on 18 September, it will be open 7 days a week from 10am to 6pm.

The Brazilian artist’s new installation is composed of a thousand blown glass bells and a polyphonic sound track, which creates a 3-D effect.  The mass of glass bells were handblown at one of the UK’s few surviving traditional glass blowing workshops, the Glass Blobbery.

Some Rather Rapid Developments

If you've been past the former Rapid Hardware Shop (52 Renshaw Street) lately, you'll know there has been a great deal of activity on the inside.  It will be the site of Re:thinking Trade, The Human Stain, Tania Bruguera's Cátedra Arte de Conducta, and a number of International artists as well as the Visitor Centre for the Festival in general.  Have a look at our Flickr page to see what we've been up to.

The exhibitions and Visitor Centre will be open from 18 September.

Book Your Place Early

Throughout the 10 weeks of the Festival, there will be many free events connected to Touched for which you will need to book.  These can be found at the Events Page of our website.

Have you booked your place for the Touched Conference on 18 September?  What about the upcoming Touched Talk with Ziauddin Sardar on 22 September?

With so many people attending the opening events, these free places will fill up quickly.  To save disappointment book now!
