All the work in my gallery is essentially abstract in nature, but usually displays a certain amount of recognisable form.
The pieces usually originate on a smaller scale, as spontaneous organic sketches which have their own momentum and as little mind interference as possible. These sketches are done in whatever medium is to hand at the time, and are then refined and scaled up. The finished version is then drawn out and detail added using a rapidograph pen.

My artwork deals with nostalgia and imagery from the past, particularly the decades of the 30s, 40s and 50s. I am interested in historical shifts in societal attitudes and behaviors due to external influences, such as advances in technology, and how that in turn influences the direction of marketing and logos. Often switching back and forth between painting and collage or some combination of the two, the theme remains consistent: bringing new life to that which has been forgotten or discarded. I use a variety of media to communicate my desire to celebrate commonplace items that have lost their meaning or purpose.
My interest in design is most evident in my jewelry. Working in polymer clay, I choose to approach the media in a very straightforward way - nearly always working with the clay directly from the package - which are inspired by my sketchbook drawings. In keeping with my interest of things of the past, each design has been given a name popular in the 30s and 40s, such as Audrey, Penelope and Dottie.
I'm working on uploading images to this gallery; in the meantime, you may see my work by visiting my website: www.bohemianpearl.com.

Chris McLoughlin’s contemporary landscapes are simply beautiful. They aim to capture the conscious experience and awareness of a place. Working from observation and inspired by his senses and emotions, he pushes the boundaries of representational painting towards a more phenomenological approach. This experience of the landscape is translated onto canvas through bold expressive brushwork and an intuitive relationship with colour. The subjects are invariably places that he knows well or visits often and include high mountain top fells and sweeping valley corridors; often working at sunrise and sunset throughout the seasons, chasing the light. The finished paintings reflect a very distinctive body of work with a romantic atmosphere.
Selling work throughout the UK, USA and Australia. Chris is currently represented by a selection of galleries, and can be found exhibiting at various locations and Art Fairs around the country. Further information can found on his website, or if you require any additional information please do not hesitate to contact Chris directly.

I use photographs as a reference and from them printmaking is my starting point to my work.
My etchings have been created by using numerous of plates to create a build up of layers. The reason for this is I want the viewer to question the work and see beyond the first layer.
Moving onto my paintings where I am using a variety of techniques using wooden carved hand blocks, acrylic paint, waxes and inks to create a series of works where fine art meets folk art.
I have been influenced by the Kalamkari paintings from India also patterns and colours from this viberant, rich in culture country.

I remain dedicated to abstract/ non-objective painting and have experimented with various mixed media, this has created many phases in my work and has taken me in numerous directions. My style of choice lies with the use of oils as they allow me the freedom to paint vibrant, surface textured compositions.

Up until recently my main interest has been urban landscape and figurative subjects. My current emphasis is on sketching and painting outdoors and I try as often as possible to work from these drawings/studies in my studio. I have found that no matter which medium I chose to experiment with my natural inclination is always to work in an expressive and spontaneous way.

Rather that the traditional form of representing objects, namely 'still life', my use of objects is more as an investigation into the nature of perception. I want the viewer to enter into my personal interpretation, so as to question the nature of the subject.

My work is made in the studio never worked from direct observation but it is important to me that my creative practice reflects and expresses my actual experiences and understandings of the world, filtering and translating these stimuli through the language of abstract gestures and shape. The scale and materiality of my paintings are developed through particular responses to the process of painting and are realised through adding, subtracting and layering the medium of oil paint. They are painted directly and spontaneously in numerous layers of thick paint, they achieve a tactility of surface through a constant and obsessive scraping back and reworking. I want my work to radiate a compressed energy, and an emotion that hints at the expression of personal inner states. My work draws on the traditions of early European modernism as well as mid century American abstraction.

The first Artists were Shaman, they called the gods to earth through their Art, petitioned the animal spirits to give themselves up as food to sustain their tribe, healed the sick and portrayed the unseen for the non-seer to see. The cartographers of the spiritworld, they mapped the unseen realms so others may find their way, they made sense of the senseless, gave form to the formless and a voice to the unheard. For both myself and my ancestors there has only ever been the ever present moment and that within this moment all that has been, is and might be, exists as one. The only defining line is the one that we create for ourselves in our constant attempt of trying to make some sense of it all.

the paintings contained in this window are concerned with images that reflect the seasons as seen through the environement in which I live. There are basically two forms 1)complex combinations of a myriad images as a sort of live in painting for one season,a sophisticated diary if you like. 2)representations as close to reality as I can manage of the place in which I live from animals to landscape. The work is done mainly in acrylics with occasional forays into water colour, oil pastel and pastel. For a more comprhensive view why not visit my site at www.handmade and heartfelt.co.uk
