Art vs. Community

Recently PAD announced they would be closing their doors due to a lack in funding.  So unfortunate.  And yet it's an all too-common occurance.  Before my travels took me to England I served as the Education Director for a non-profit arts organization in the States.  I got the sad news in January that I was going be laid off.  While their organization didn't completely shut down, it was forced to make significant changes which included shutting down their Studio School - a wonderful resource for the community.  It was a devestating blow for me and I know it

Sutherland, Woman on Fire, Bay on Fire, Jubilee Hills Rocks

I
have just returned after spending two months in Darwen Lancashire
receiving treatment from the excellent Blackburn Hospital.  I
have painted Darwen Tower Canvas in largely primary colours of
red/black/ and yellow.  I am so taken aback with the
architecture of some fine buildings, churches, and even the old
Victorian toilets. I intend to continue depicting some of these
buildings in my new found colours.

Contemplating "Blue" Art

A couple of days ago I visited the Tate Museum in Liverpool.  Included in their collection is one of Yves Klein's infamous blue paintings.  A trademark color the artist patented and, according to the placard next to the painting, he believed "had a quality close to pure space."  Brilliance or bull?
